When I was young, it was a fantastic and marvelous thing to tell people
that I was left-handed. Well, I still get a thrill in being able to tell
people that. But that’s beside the point. I was left-handed and in second
grade my teacher tried to show me how to hold a pencil. Now, why is this a
big deal? Because she showed me how to hold a pencil like a right-handed
person would. I was offended! And I like to think that this is why I began
to write, to prove her wrong. I like to think that anyway.
I’m going to fast-forward a bit…
When I was about twelve years old, my dad found this free HTML generator
and a small tutorial that he printed out. With just instructions on how to
make links and how to put a background on a page, I began to make web
pages. And they really were web pages. It was a collection of pointless
information and boring stuff about me. I deleted it soon after when I
realized how dumb it really was. I gave up on the website idea for a
while.
Speeding on up…
When I was fourteen I had an idea for a website. Inspired, I spent whole
days on the computer and slowly created the Dragon Caverns, which is still
running today. I also began to make computer graphics. I don’t boast to be
as good as our fantastic artists here. I can do limited but impressive
(sometimes) graphics if I get the inspiration.
At this time I also began playing for the high school tennis team, so yes!
I do have a real life.
Fast-forward some more…
Last year (2000) my dad “employed” me to make a website for the company he
worked for. I got paid below minimum wage, but I had fun anyway. The
website, unfortunately, never got up because of some kind of business
glitch. I think they may have moved the address of the website and lost
the work or something.
Then that summer I went on something called “Field Studies”. This was a
school trip that takes about twenty-eight students to a different place
every year. You have to pay for each trip though, so I only went once last
summer. We went to the West and saw these fantastic rock formations and
even saw dinosaur tracks. We camped out and cooked our own meals. It was
an experience I’ll never forget!
